As part of our mission to educate and train the future aviators of America, Tradewind Flight Services (TFS) is excited to announce that we have been selected to be a University Partner for the Air Force Junior ROTC Summer Flight Academy program.

This partnership was made possible through our affiliation with Liberty University’s Flight Training program and the recognition of our dedication to the core values of the Air Force Junior ROTC program. We look forward to opening our hangar doors to the incoming 10 cadets at our New Bern campus this summer.

The mission of the Air Force Junior ROTC program is to instill in its students the value of character, citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment. They aim high to make a positive impact on the lives of their cadets. These values are perfectly captured in their motto: “Building Better Citizens for America.”

This program is a true benefit to all the students and organizations involved. It provides powerful insight and lasting impressions by exposing young cadets to aviation in a college environment surrounded by experts in the field. The University Partners benefit through increased awareness to their programs and school.

Each Air Force Junior ROTC cadet goes through a rigorous and competitive selection process. It began when a sophomore, junior, or senior student applied in the early Fall for the Flight Academy scholarship. Candidates who successfully pass board selection will move forward for a FAA flight physical and TSA screening before starting their training in June 2021.

The goal of the training is for each cadet to earn their Private Pilot Certification. Tradewind Flight Service will actively manage this program by administrating the curriculum, school policies, and flight training schedule. This unique Private Pilot Certification will take place over an intense eight-week summer period that will operate seven days a week.

In addition to the resources provided at the TFS campus, we will be maximizing the cadet’s exposure to the Eastern Carolina community. Working in conjunction with East Carolina University located in Greenville, NC, we have an established partnership that will enhance the cadet’s true campus experience. This association will provide tours and access to the Air Force ROTC program located at the university whose staff will also participate in specially prepared briefs on careers as an Air Force pilot.

This experience is designed to synchronize community relationships, leadership development, and professional mentorship by fostering enduring partnerships. These expectations will be realized through a variety of special field trips to Seymore-Johnson AFB and Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. Here students will witness first-hand the might of military aviation in Eastern North Carolina.

Our dedicated staff and Certified Flight Instructors will strive to inspire a sense of accomplishment while emphasizing the importance of serving the nation and community. We pride ourselves on modeling the type of behavior that the Air Force Junior ROTC program desires to instill in their cadets. Each future aviator will be safe, supported, and engaged throughout their training experience at Tradewind Flight Service.
